In 1912, Rev. Pingree died while trying to rescue two girls in a local pond.  The troop meets in Pingree Hall, which was named in honor of Rev. Pingree after his death.  The First Congregational Church sponsors the troop.  Troop 42 is now a member of the Seven Rivers District of the Old Colony Council, Boy Scouts of America.
